Rose Bowl Flea Market

Every second Sunday of the month there's a flea market around the parking area of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. Known for its tournament of roses parade every January 1st and of course the college football.

The flea market starts at around 5 AM. Too early? Nope. A lot of early birds come  since it's only a once  in a month event.  For early birds, tickets are bit steep, 5-7 AM  tickets costs $20 per person, 7-9 AM $15 and after 9 AM it's $8. Parking is free but if you want a preferred spot (meaning closer to the gate) you have to shell out another $10. We arrived at around 7:30 AM and decided to go in early instead of waiting for after 9 AM but we used the free parking. I think I'd rather pay more to get in than paying for the preferred parking. It's just nice that we have choices for parking.

Going in early has its perks. There's not a lot of people walking. You'll be the first one to see what the vendors are selling. At 7:30 AM it's still cloudy, so it's not hot, weather wise. Of course it became warmer towards lunchtime. Most vendors won't give in with haggling because it's still early.

Don't be afraid to haggle.

Thank God for they have regular restrooms and not a port-a-potty.

Things to consider when going to a flea market:

Always bring a container of beverage(s) and a snack. the vendors always mark up their prices.

Bring a hat, a pair of sunglasses, wet washcloth or wipes and sunblock. The weather is very unpredictable. I even have an umbrella with me.

If you're planning to buy something heavy or you think you'll find a lot of bargains, you may want to bring a rolling cart, a plastic wagon or a luggage that has wheels. I've seen people bring it! The place is huge so carrying a heavy stuff will slow you down.

Wear comfortable shoes.

Bring some cash. Not all vendors accepts credit/debit cards. There's an available ATM machine at the entrance.

Most of all, enjoy! Even if you didn't buy anything. Just being there and see what's available for you is enough.
